These recipes are my family’s favourites which they enjoy and request for repeatedly. They are fail proof and repeatable by anyone with minimal cooking skill.
Kong Bak Pau (Chinese Pork Burger)
The belly pork is braised in a fragrant mixture of spices and dark soya sauce till soft and tender.
Spiced Coconut Custard (Wattalappan Dessert)
I’ve made mine with Gula Melaka and ground cumin. It’s yummy! Will try with cardamon seeds next time.
Homemade Spicy Sausage Roll
I fried the spices first before adding the cooled spices to the minced beef to make a spicy version of sausage roll.
Pineapple Tart - traditional shape (gluten free)
The Pineapple Tart itself is tangy sweet pineapple jam encased in a buttery, crumbly pastry. Yum!
Braised Chicken with Chestnut
The chicken is tender and flavoursome and I like the nutty taste of chestnut and the spongy mushroom. The gravy is delicious!
Seafood Wonton Cup
The crispy wonton skin goes well with the soft texture of creamy egg flavoured with taste of smoked salmon.
Prawn Wonton Noodle Soup
I substituted it with ikan bilis, dried prawn and prawn shells. Follow the special technique below to get the prawn plump and crunchy.

Ipoh Kai See Hor Fun (Ipoh Rice Noodle Soup) (怡保鸡丝河粉)
The dish is a yummy concoction of texture and taste, using prawn stock as the base and adding fresh prawns and tender shredded chicken to their slippery smooth hor fun.
Steamed Fish with Mui Choy (梅菜蒸魚)
It was an interesting combination: the savoury sweet mui choy provided a delicious taste and gravy to the otherwise rather bland fish meat.
Air-fried Spicy & Crispy Chicken
I like this spicy & crispy chicken recipe - the chicken thigh pieces are tender on the inside and spicy and crispy on the outside. I have air-fried the chicken instead of deep frying - easy to cook and not at all oily.
3-Cup Chicken (三杯雞)
3-cup refers to the use of equal portion of each of the three main ingredients - sesame oil, Chinese cooking wine and soya sauce. I like to add dark soya sauce and sugar too, so maybe I should call it 5-Cup Chicken?
